Happy Anniversary

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

house.jpgOne year ago today (May 31) it happened.  365 1/4 days ago.  What you might ask happened one year from today?  Was it a major event on CNN?  Did the world change?  Or did just my world change?  If you guess both you are right.Today, one year ago, I closed on my house in Leeds.   That’s right; I am a home owner for one year.

Being my first house I was very excited.  I now was able to lay my head down in my own home. Not my apartment, not someone else’s home, but mine.It has been a great one year so far.  I only received a half of year of tax benefits but man did they help.  I can’t wait for tax season next year to see what I get. The only downfall is that it takes 2 hours to push the yard.  But hey I need the exercise. So for all of you out there, who want to celebrate with me, raise your goblets and toast to 129 Cedar Rock.

One More Time…

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

So we played our next to last game last night (Monday, May 21st).  We played a team called, The Well.  This is the team we lost by one point to the first go around.  This is the team that has only won one game.

This game would be ours.  This is the team if we beat them we would be tied for last place.  A lot of pressure at this game.  A lot to live up to.  Could we handle it?  And to top it all off we only had 9 players instead of the normal 10 to show up.

So How did we do?  We Wo—-  ok, we lost like normal, but it was close.  Here is a recap.

We added an extra player from another team.  He was ok but not the ringer we needed.

We took an early lead 2-0.  Then they scored 5.  So 5-2.  Then we came back and scored 4 runs to make it 6-5.  Then we scored 2 more runs making our lead the biggest of the year at 8-5.  Victory was getting close.  We could almost smell it.  Very exciting to say the least.

Well then it happened.  They hit a homerun with two people on base to tie the game.  After that we didn’t score anymore.  They scored a couple of more runs but the game was called because of time and they won.

How did I do you ask?  Well you probably didn’t but I wanted to share anyways.

I was 3 for 3.  First hit brought in a run and had a double.  Second hit I had a 3 RBI on a single.  First single - 3 RBI ever.

Third hit I had a single.  Then I advanced.  I tried to steal third base but was a little slow in the process.  It was a good slide but a good throw at the same time.  At least I can say I performed a slide in this decade.  It has been a while since.

LAST game of the season on June 4th at 9:30pm.  We need a big fan base to end the season.  Maybe if we had fans to cheer us on it would improve our game. You never know until it happens.

My first home away from Home

TROYSad news across a grateful campus.  Dill Hall is to become no more.  For all those who didn’t attend Troy, Dill Hall was my first Apt (dorm) my freshmen year of college.

Dill Hall is being torn down to make room for the new Education Building.

Man did I have some fun times there.  Someone from Tallassee has been living in Dill 110 since 1987.  It has been passed down over the years and I was the last resident of Tallassee to live there in 1995.  I hope I did you guys proud.  To the men that lived there:  Travis Bryant, Dave & Ed Lawrence, Michael Pierce, and many more… I salute you guys.

Funny stories of Dill Hall:

  • The Harley - Handicapped bathroom.  Toilet was a foot taller.  Had handle bars, and there was a footstool that even I had to use.
  • Ed coming into the apt for HC and removing all these “borrowed” signs from my closet that he left there in the early 90s.
  • Thursday night parties.  We opened up the blinds and turned on the special light made up of plastic cups and Christmas lights.
  • Having 3 seniors as roommates.  I didn’t learn proper study habits from them…haha
  • Having our own kitchen so we didn’t have to eat at SAGA.
  • Having Mrs. Jones cook up a homemade Italian Meal.  So Good!!!

Raise your glasses to Dill Hall!!!

Don’t talk about it… the perfect season

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Well we have now played 8 games this season, and have shown no mercy. We are ruthless, tough, courageous, and did I say ruthless.

Ruthless, tough, and courageous in the beatings we take each week on the softball field. That is right…perfect season. 0 - 8. We did score 8 runs last night, which is something amazing in itself. 15-8. Good game for the most part. We had two really great innings.

Only two more games left. Will we win one of them? Will we have more than 2 fans a game? Bring all your friends. We need the support.

That Dare to be great moment

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Have you had that “Dare to be GREAT Moment?” What is that moment? Has life just been passing you by? It seems like you are floating along as a third person watching your life via TV? I mean, your life, relationships, jobs, everything is on auto pilot.

You remember the old cartoons with the two buzzards. Which way did he go George, which way did he go? I feel like that buzzard sometime. Just feels like my brain is idling, just ready to go.

I need that Dare to be great moment! I need that one chance to define me. Where is that moment? What will it be? I am destined for greatness, I can feel it.

Grease Lightning

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

grease.jpgWell, the time has come for me to polish my dancing shoes. Wait, I don’t have any dancing shoes.  But in the spirit of Grease I did pull out my black converse to “hone” in my acting/singing/ chops.

I really don’t know if the shoes helped or not, but isn’t that the old NBA saying, “IT has to be the SHOES!!!”

Well last night we had auditions for Grease.  It has been a year since I have acted and was excited about trying out again.  A fresh start.  A chance to reinvent yourself or at least the character you want to be.

I auditioned for Danny and Kinecki.  I figured why not.  Knock on wood, I think I did well.  I guess time will tell. I did get a callback for Wednesday.  So either wish me good luck or break a leg.  Not sure if break a leg is for auditions. Who knows.

The show is at the Leeds Arts Council in Leeds, AL.  The show will perform July 20-22 & 27-29.  Two shows on both Saturdays.

I will blog back when I know what part I will be playing.  Keep your fingers crossed.

TB, you need to audition tonight.  They need some guys.  You could be a T-bird, or a Burger Palace Club (weird, I know).

Another one bites the dust

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Well I was hoping to write to you with great news of a Glorious victory.  But no such luck.  We started out well.  3 - 0  lead.  But that closed quickly. For the most part we held them in arms reach.  But they pulled ahead.  Another 15 run victory in the 4th.  When will we get better?  When will it be our time to win?  Isn’t this church league.  Shouldn’t every team win at least one?  I think so. So all pray for our team when we compete again in two weeks.  We just want one victory before the end of the season.

I was 2 - 2 at the plate.  Didn’t bring anyone home or score myself…but at least I didn’t strike out.
